We left the ship after breakfast, bussed to the ferry terminal on Moorea, and a short 30-minute ferry ride later, arrived to mass confusion in Papeete. As promised, we were met by the Avis guy in a red t-shirt. He sped off with B to the Avis office to do all the paperwork, and the rest of us waited for luggage. It resembled a mob scene.
Burdened with our many bags, we moved from quayside to the parking lot along the adjacent street. And we waited. The clouds looming over us eventually opened, so we repaired underneath a nearby banyan tree to shelter from the rain. B eventually returned with the extremely small car, and we entertained some of our erstwhile traveling companions with our efforts to fit in all our bags. With Isa's "Big Blue" wedged between us on the back seat, and each of us holding a well-stuffed backpack on our laps, we finally managed. Two hours later, we arrived at Pueu Village on the little island, Tahiti Iti.
Our lodging here is just to our taste. D did a good job of ferreting it out. We are in a bungalow on the shore, with the surf alternately muttering and rumbling onto the reef a quarter mile off shore. We dine alfresco at a table on our front porch, enjoying the view and the rain.
